I was fortunate enough to be included with the trompatistis even though I was barely able to blow a few notes on the montuno. It was fun, and getting to meet some "real" trumpet players was a personal treat for me. I also learned some valuable lessons. Thanks to Jim, I now know some basic trumpet skills and am practicing everyday. Next year, look out. I might even get a tuba, as it would add some needed bottom. The energy and spirit of the whole crew that made the presentation of San Fermin before the runners started was contageous, and when 10,000 runners assemble for a single purpose, the experience is remarkable.
I intend to Blog about music and my take on instruments and singing.

Trumpet VS Guitar
I wish I had found a trumpet instead of a guitar in the closet of my Grandmother's house. No wires. Loud. But Life is what it is. My father played the Jews Harp and the French Harp (Harmonica) but only a few songs. The Little Rosewood Casket was a favorite of his, and he loved to wail on the Jew's Harp.
I did have access to several pianos in various states of tune as a child and I was allowed to play them when I felt inspired. I can't remember where the inspiration I got to write poems and later songs came from. Muse is a romantic concept. So as an introduction to this blog I want to say that I will include some original poems, songs and Chord structure and wax philosophically (from a Louisiana Hill Country proud to not be too citified point of view). I do not know any answers, and am only now trying to write down a few questions. Please feel free to jump in on this at any time, and especially if you may have an answer. I saw Elvis live at the Louisiana Hayride when I was a young boy. It may have changed my direction. But my life has been and is still GOOD.
Blowing the trumpet is a lonesome hobby. Not much unlike learning to play the violin. My first public trumpet gig was at the opening in NOLA of the 2011 Running of the Bulls. Mario Abney joined us on that hot Saturday morning on Ernst's Cafe's balcony, and made this performance for me be the height of my trumpet career. I think I will retire, now. But I do love playing the thing, and am hoping to work in some horn parts to some of my old original songs. Maybe "York Cowboy"?
On 11-11-11 a group of old musician friends are planning on meeting and playing some music outdoors at the fire circle at George and Susan (name with held to protect the innocent). We will play through some covers and some original songs, and it will be fun. There may be a video recording of some of it. I am working up a song list, and I can't decide which are my most favorite songs to try to do with the old group.
I love old rock a billy and even 50's country, and Jimmy Rogers and Hank Williams and Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson. Elvis, the Beatles, and the Rolling Stones are often on my set list. And I like to sprinkle in a few original songs, as if they were deserving to be in the same category.
Ever wonder where songs come from?
